PPG Industries has celebrated the inauguration of a passive fire protection (PFP) coatings research and development centre at its Kunshan site in China. PPG executives Tim Knavish, Global VP, Protective and Marine Coatings; Mike Horton, President, PPG Asia Pacific; and Colin Tan, Director, Protective Coatings, Asia Pacific, attended the ceremony along with many other guests.
Groundbreaking took place in September 2013 and it is the first PFP coatings laboratory in Asia. The centre will provide technical support to PPG’s global PFP coatings business and develop new PFP coatings suited to the demands of the local market and customers.
It is equipped with state-of-the-art research and test facilities, including furnaces imported from the USA that can reach 1093°C in three minutes. The centre enables PPG to respond promptly to customers’ questions regarding product applications, project construction and technologies for fire and low-temperature protection.
