BCF presidency handed over to PPG’s Vincent O’Sullivan at BCF Conference

14 July 2016

At the British Coatings Federation (BCF) Annual Conference and Gala Dinner held in Manchester in June, outgoing BCF President John Falder of HMG Paints handed over presidency of the BCF to Vincent O’Sullivan, of PPG Architectural Coatings. At the event, which was enjoyed by over 110 delegates, John Falder was thanked for his proactive and passionate leadership in the last 2 ½ years.

Commenting on his new role, Vincent said "We have some major challenges ahead, not least in maintaining our competitiveness in what is now an uncertain business environment after the Brexit vote. However, I know with a strong BCF team working hard on our behalf, we will be able to adapt as necessary to ensure a bright future for our industry, and I’m looking forward to the challenge”. John Falder thanked BCF’s Tom Bowtell and the team in Leatherhead, saying he was pleased to be passing on the presidency at a time when the BCF has never been in such a strong position, in terms of influence, membership levels and financial stability.

The gala dinner followed a day of stimulating business presentations, which looked at topics such as global economic trends, what the apprenticeship levy means for BCF members and news on the Chemistry Growth Partnership. The power of sensory branding showing the important role of print, on-line paint purchasing trends, a glimpse in to the future of paints, inks and coatings with innovative printed electronic technology, and a review of the BCF completed the programme.

The evening, which saw BCF’s Director of Regulatory Affairs Wayne Smith recognised for 25 years’ service, also recognised the contribution of Brian Widdop from Crown Paints, who was awarded the BCF silver medal in May, and sadly passed away just before the conference.

Tom Bowtell, BCF’s CEO commented "It was a pleasure to be able to thank John Falder for his tremendous contribution and support during his term as president, and I look forward to working with Vincent as we work out how the Brexit decision is going to affect the UK coatings community”.
