DSM Coating Resins has commissioned a VCM pilot coating line from RK PrintCoat Instruments.
Dutch company DSM supplies the coating industry with resins that allow the manufacture and application of sustainable coating technologies, such as water-based, powder and UV-curable coatings.
RK PrintCoat Instruments designs and manufactures pilot printing/coating technology and colour communication devices.
These systems can be used for quality control purposes for determining process/product feasibility, commercial viability, and for small-scale production of complex materials and products.
André Goos, Global Technical Application Manager at DSM, said: ‘RK Print Coat Instruments offered great flexibility for the custom made design of our new coating machine.
"This very versatile coating machine combines in-line priming with top coating, as well as flexo printing and gravure printing with water- and solvent-based, and UV curable inks.”
The new VCM pilot coater replaces a 35 year old rotary coater, also from RK PrintCoat, which has been used for 20,000 coating runs using more than 250 rolls and 1000km of film.
‘We are very confident that this new pilot coater will significantly contribute to the growth of our business in the printing and packaging market,’ added Goos.
