Experience Composites

28 September 2015

In the coming year a new event called "Experience Composites – powered by the JEC Group" will be staged in Augsburg from 21 to 23 September 2016 in a Multi-Location-Format. It is being set up by Messe Augsburg in collaboration with the JEC Group and Carbon Composites e.V. (CCeV).The internationally organised event will be designed to be a showcase for the entire industry, focussing on machinery and plant construction, aviation and space travel, construction and infrastructure, medical technology, wind power, as well as the automotive and transport sectors.

Gerhard Reiter, the managing director of Messe Augsburg, is convinced that the event being staged in co-operation with the JEC Group and CCeV will be a success, " There is no other location in Europe like Augsburg having a market and industry locally catering for lightweight construction, fibre composites and carbon; we benefit greatly from the proximity to Augsburg Innovationspark and from being right next door to Carbon Composites e.V., the most important and largest network in this sector and not least the assistance of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as the Chamber of Crafts in Swabia and other supporters in the region. As a result of our experience in staging specialist events onsite in close proximity to the centre of Augsburg and the high quality staff we having working in customer support, it is quite clear that we offer the very best environment for this event and working together with the JEC Group as a pioneer and leader in this field enables us to access the expertise and the network of the global composites community."

"The Global Composites Industry is growing fast (+5% p.a.), and as an observer and representative of the Industry, we could not help but to notice that this development could only be possible thanks to the close relationship of the Golden triangle made of Government, Industry and Research together with Material Sciences and Engineering. Germany perfectly applies this model in the field of composites materials and is hence a key player in the Composites Industry’s global development”, says Mrs. Frédérique Mutel, JEC Group President and CEO. "Augsburg is a strong Composites Hub and JEC Group is thrilled to be part of this promising project.” Adds Mrs. Mutel.

Alexander Gundling, managing director of Carbon Composites e.V. has this to say, "Having one of the largest networks in the lightweight construction industry, Carbon Composites e.V. and its leading-edge cluster MAI Carbon are supporting the trade fair in Augsburg for two reasons: on the one hand it provides a showcase in which innovative businesses and organisations in this sector can promote their enormous expertise. On the other hand, there is not only a trade congress and a trade fair in Augsburg, but also on-site visits, rounds of discussions and training events. This means that there is an entirely new concept of presentation being displayed and this fits in very well with the innovative character of the industry and the venue."

Augsburg has the best network

More and more lightweight products are becoming ready for mass production across the entire spectrum of industries spanning from machine and plant building to aviation and space travel, to the automotive industry and its subcontractors right up to robotics and construction. Conversely, the modern mass production of reproducible fibre composite components is at times so complex that this can only be managed by a few companies with great difficulty. With the large number of research institutes it has even today, such as the Deutsche Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e.V. the Functional Lightweight Design Department at the Fraunhofer Institute and firms working on resource-efficiency technology and carbon fibre composite materials, the economic region in which Augsburg is located provides an excellent network which will have a significant addition in the coming year with the "Experience Composites – powered by the JEC Group" Trade Fair.

Augsburg is centrally located in the southern technology axis, one of the trans-European networks, in one of the strongest and highly innovative economic regions in Europe. The booming economic region may be described as undergoing a structural change driven by innovation and expertise, focussing on mechatronics, automation together with fibre composite materials, environmental, information and communication technology.

A Multi Location Event is an innovative event concept

A new and pioneering event concept has been developed for "Experience Composites – powered by the JEC Group", which was co-ordinated at an early stage between a large number of opinion-formers. In addition to the new Composites trade fair, the so-called "Multi Location Format" includes a congress, a visit to the businesses present, scientific institutes, seminars and training sessions and community events at various locations in Augsburg. The aim is to bring fibre composite materials and the entire value creation chain to life by making them transparent and structured so that they become tangible and, in particular, to make newcomers aware of all the potential applications of the material.

Enjoy the cultural and culinary delights on offer in Augsburg

In addition to the above, Augsburg enjoys the special charm of being Germany’s second-oldest city. There is plenty to see and do at the margins of the event, starting with a whole string of events sights of interest and cultural amenities and venues right up to strolling around and trying out the restaurants in Maximilianstraße close by in the centre of Augsburg.

And those who so wish, will be coming just at the right time to visit the Oktoberfest close in Munich straight after the end of trade fair as well
