Huntsman to take innovative chemistries for a better life to Chinaplas

12 April 2016

Global chemical company Huntsman will be exhibiting at Chinaplas in Shanghai in later this month (April 25-28). At the event Huntsman will promote many of the innovative chemistries it has created for a better life – specifically, products and systems that can impact positively on the design, production and durability of plastics used in ordinary, everyday applications.

Worldwide, Huntsman works closely with polymer formulators, manufacturers and compounders, helping them create products that make our planet a more comfortable place to live. Core technologies include IROGRAN® and AVALON® thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU) – popular in a variety of footwear, wire and cable and film and sheet applications. Huntsman also works at a molecular level in the plastics industry, developing performance chemistries that can impart polymers, nylon fibres and engineering plastics with different characteristics including greater flexibility, improved elasticity, better breathability and enhanced durability.

At Chinaplas Huntsman will demonstrate how its materials and chemistries are used by:

Food, drink and pharmaceutical manufacturers to create FCM-compliant (food contact material) dispensing equipment and conveyor belts for processing plants as well as hoses and tubes for urban water systems
Clothing and footwear manufacturers to make lightweight, comfortable yet durable shoes, boots and trainers as well as breathable fabrics for waterproof coats.

Huntsman will also showcase the use of its technologies in:

Transport applications: To create connectors to charge electric cars and cable jackets for under hood vehicle performance sensor systems
In our homes and offices: To produce laminated films for glass panels used in high-rise apartment and office blocks; in TPU-based elevator and escalator belts; and in the wire jackets and protective covers used to power and safeguard mobile phones and tablets
The manufacture of leisure goods: To develop soft touch, easy-grip handles for luggage; structural inserts for bags; hardwearing films for sports equipment; bladders for hydration packs; and wearable fitness trackers.

Huntsman will also talk to attendees about improving the functionality of plastic resins and fibres using:

Hydrophilic polyetheramines for thermoplastic modification: Huntsman’s ELASTAMINE® series of polyetheramines can increase the hydrophilicity, polarity and surface energy of non-polar polymers for improved adhesion to coatings / printings in order to achieve better paintability, printability, anti-fogging and anti-static properties.
Polyetheramines for mechanical property improvement: Used as co-monomers in polyamides or other polymers, ELASTAMINE® polyetheramines can deliver increased flexibility, elasticity, impact strength, processability and better low-temperature properties.
