The British Coatings Federation Food Packaging Summit 2015

13 February 2015

The British Coatings Federation (BCF) is the sole UK Trade Federation representing the coatings industry. In particular, the BCF has 30 printing ink manufacturers, representing the key players in this sector and is, therefore, able to speak for the industry as a whole.

The subject of migration of chemicals from packaging into foodstuff continues to be of interest to the printing inks industry, though it is good to note that in recent times there have been no alerts in this particular area. However, this does not mean that the entire food packaging industry is resting on its laurels but it continues to move forward to ensure that any chance of such an occurrence is minimised.

Following the success of BCF’s Food Packaging Summit held in 2013, this event will be re-staged in October 2015. The 2013 event was a sell out with more than 130 delegates and had presentations from all sectors of the food packaging chain, from substrate supplier to retailer and brand owner.

The 2015 Summit will, again, have representatives from all the affected sectors and will look deeply into some of the areas, which have developed – or are developing in the time since the last event. These will include the forthcoming German Ink Ordinance, its possible problems to the marketplace and methods to address them.

The European Printing Ink Association is updating its Good Manufacturing Practice for the production of inks intended for use on food packaging and this will be covered in detail and will demonstrate how it will further enhance the food safety issues when printing inks are intended for use in this area.

It is expected to look in more depth at other market sectors, such as the narrow web label sector, how it is affected and how it is resolving areas of concern.

Further information about this event will be available at www.coatings.org.uk.
