The Shepherd Color Company announces new IR reflective green pigment

23 June 2021

Shepherd Color has announced the launch of its new speciality Chromium Oxide Green 30C659. Shepherd Color has more than 90 years of experience developing, optimising and manufacturing an extraordinary range of complex inorganic colour pigments. This addition to their speciality performance Dynamix® easily-dispersed and Arctic® IR Reflective pigment lines, adds yet another pigment to their extensive colour options.

Chromium Oxide Green, also known as C.I. Pigment Green 17, is widely used in high-performance colour matches and has wide regulatory approvals and inclusion in chemical registries around the world. Green 30C659 is an addition to the Arctic® IR Reflective line of pigments, which has become the standard for use in ‘cool coatings’ because of its potential to reduce energy usage in building products. Shepherd Color’s Green 30C659 incorporates its Dynamix® technology, which removes the time consuming, energy-intensive and variable pigment grinding step in laboratory development, scale-up and full production. Green 30C659 is all inorganic and doesn’t have any organic dispersion aids or resins included that might compromise the performance of systems incorporating the pigment. This unique blending of properties makes the pigment a cornerstone of any sustainable coating or plastic system.

Common uses for Green 30C659 are high-performance coatings, such as coil coating, extrusion spray, automotive, industrial, architectural, powder and other coatings. It can also be used in plastics and engineering polymers, especially in thin films and fibres. The pigment is optimised for easy dispersion and has the following characteristics:

  • Dark green colour
  • High Total Solar Reflectance (TSR)
  • High opacity and heat stability
  • Compatible with wide range of water and solvent systems and plastics

Green 30C659 is a great partner to Shepherd Color’s other innovative Arctic® IR Reflective pigments helping customers to expand their inorganic durable and weatherable colour space options.

This new pigment is an example of Shepherd Color’s R&D expertise in developing products that provide unique tools to solve the challenges of customers in the coatings and engineering plastics industries.
