Tikkurila initiates co-operation negotiations on temporary layoffs in Finland

02 April 2020

Tikkurila Oyj has initiated co-operation negotiations on temporary layoffs in Finland. Through the negotiations, Tikkurila prepares for the weakening demand due to the tightening regulations, and the economic and production-related impacts that COVEID-19 will have.

"We anticipate this exceptional situation to impact our business operations in all market areas, including Finland. The measures taken to curb the spreading of the virus are necessary, but they are expected to decrease the workload. Also, effective remote work is not possible in all roles," said Elisa Markula, Tikkurila’s CEO.

"It is currently very difficult to assess the full impact or the duration of this crisis, but co-operation negotiations will enable us to adjust our operations to a rapidly changing situation. During the negotiations we will try to find the best possible alternative for all Tikkurila employees."

All Tikkurila’s employees in Finland are included in the negotiations. According to current estimates, the measures may lead to temporary full-time or part-time layoffs of personnel for the maximum duration of 90 days. The final extent and duration of the layoffs as well as the details of the implementation will be specified further later.

Tikkurila is preparing to adjust its operations also in other countries. In 2019, Tikkurila employed on average of 2700 people, of which 500 in Finland.
