AkzoNobel has won a coveted Red Dot Award for the digital version of its 2014 annual report. The interactive publication has been recognised for the quality of its Communication Design in the highly respected competition.

This year, more than 7450 entries were received from 53 countries, with the jury commenting that AkzoNobel’s digital report had distinguished itself from the competition by showing ‘uncompromising competency and considerable courage’.

Widely regarded as being one of the most influential global awards, the Red Dot Award for Communication Design 2015 recognises achievements in the fields of corporate design, advertising, interactive media or sound design.

Launched in February, AkzoNobel’s digital Report 2014 was developed in co-operation with Vienna, Austria-based nexxar. Available online or as an iPad app, it features a dynamic opening ‘waterfall’ design, as well as extensive use of infographics and an interactive chart generator. Incorporating cutting-edge responsive design techniques, other highlights include animated charts and diagrams and search-as-you type capabilities, as well as several case study videos highlighting the company’s Human Cities and Planet Possible initiatives.

The company’s winning entry will now be featured in Red Dot’s International Yearbook Communication Design, at the Red Dot Design Museum in Essen and at exhibitions that are part of Red Dot on Tour in cities around the world. The award itself will be officially presented at a ceremony in Berlin in November.
