The year was 1962. The place was Eastman Chemical Company. The discovery – a revolutionary coalescent for latex paint known today as Eastman Texanol ester alcohol.
Texanol is Eastman’s longest standing product produced at is Longview site in Texas, USA. To commemorate the 50-year anniversary, Eastman held a celebration event at the Longview site for employees and retirees who have worked in the production of Texanol over the years.
In 1962, the latex paint industry was in its infancy. The industry was transitioning from oil-based paints to water-based paints and paint formulators quickly recognised the superior performance of Texanol. Over the last five decades, Texanol has continued to evolve, becoming the gold standard in paint worldwide. Through its success, it served as the flagship product that led to a whole new generation of coalescents.
