Bulldozing through with positivity

Globally acclaimed multidisciplinary artist Alice, better known in the art world as Lai Lai Chang, put aside her voluntary duties with Inkmaker Group’s Foundation to complete a commission for Chinese New Year.

Titled the "Return of the Mythical Red Auroch”, the large mosaic bovine, now rears proudly outside its new owner’s premises — luxury hotel Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown — defiantly warding off any untoward negativity.

The imposing sculpture stands over two-metres tall and took Alice one and a half months of meticulously applying small recycled ceramic tiles onto a concrete form to complete.

"I was a little concerned, towards the end, that I might not manage the deadline. Yet the attributes of the ox; strength, reliability, confidence and conscientiousness focused me into ploughing through to the end and on time,” explained Alice.Mrs Guerra, who conducted ceramic-art workshops for children with special needs last Christmas, took on the role of setting-up and chairing the Inkmaker Group Foundation at the start of this year. She concluded that there is a lot to be done and that she has many ambitious activities planned for 2021.
