Dow Performance Monomers, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, has announced the shutting down of 20% of acrylate capacity at its Deer Park Operations in Deer Park, Texas. In addition to shutting down capacity, other actions will include optimising turnaround and structural costs and exploring co-producer supply agreements.
"We are taking these actions to address the impact of the global acrylates trough and to more strongly align the business’ acrylate production to business priorities: providing downstream business needs for growth and supplying those customers that value long-term, reliable acrylate supply,” said Todd Prey, Global Business Director, Methacrylates and Acrylates. "The compilation of these actions will deliver impact to the business both in the near and long term.”
Acrylates are used in a variety of applications including adhesives, coatings, inks, plastics, and superabsorbent products.
