Hexion to expand waterborne epoxy capacity in China

01 December 2015

Hexion Inc has announced an expansion of its waterborne epoxy resin production capacity in Tianjin, China.

The project, which will take advantage of the most modern technologies including a new reactor, will allow Hexion to meet increasing demand for its waterborne epoxy products used to formulate waterborne coatings, polymer flooring and sizing for glass or carbon fibres used in wind energy, automotive and aerospace applications. "Waterborne technology offers manufacturers a more sustainable alternative to solvent-based coatings by reducing volatile organic compounds,” said Terry Shao, Hexion’s Regional Market Development Manager for China. "Hexion was one of the first global suppliers to bring high-end epoxy waterborne technology to the region and this investment is further evidence of our commitment to help customers meet the most rigorous environmental standards and adopt sustainable paints and protective coatings.”

With the expansion, Hexion will be able to locally produce and shorten supply times for a range of epoxy resins, curing agent and modifiers including its latest development, a waterborne, 2K zinc-rich resin system that is comparable in performance to traditional solventborne technologies.
