ECKART Asia promoting Scott Bader speciality polymers thickeners and coatings

14 November 2014

Eckart Asia is exhibiting at Chinacoat 2014 from 3-5 December, which this year is located in Guangzhou. On its stand (No. 9.2/A15-24 Zone1 /Hall 9.2) Eckart will be promoting both solvent- and water-based technologies from Scott Bader Speciality Polymers Division. This will include the Texipolâ and Texicrylâ ranges of waterbased specialist thickeners and binders, used all over the world by leading manufacturers of paints, coatings, building and construction products, and for a wide variety of Graphic Arts products. For those interested in industrial coating and surface priming applications, show visitors will also be able to find out more about the ranges of Crestakyd resins and Crestacryl solventborne acrylics used in topcoats and primer systems for the coating of wood and metal, as well as the Polideneâ range of emulsions, used extensively in water-based anticorrosive primers.

Tony Phillips, Market Development Manager, and Alan Kennedy, Commercial Director, from Scott Bader Speciality Polymers Division, along with Patrick Wu, General Manager, Scott Bader Asia Pacific, will all be on the stand during Chinacoat 2014 supporting Eckart Asia, which is the official distributor in China for Scott Bader Speciality Polymers. Mr Phillips stated that: "Scott Bader has supporting Eckart Asia at Chinacoat since 2005. The show continues to be the most important annual event in Asia to meet companies from the global coatings industry, make good contacts and find new business.”

Texicryl and Texipol Liquid Thickeners

The Texicryl range of ASE (Alkali Swellable Emulsions) and hydrophobically modified alkali swellable emulsions (HASE) liquid thickeners are used for thickening and controlling the rheology of water-based decorative paints. Being liquid state thickeners, Texicryl HASE products are easier to handle than more traditional powder thickeners, such as HEC type cellulosics. Texicryl products provide added benefits of being less susceptible to bacteria degradation and the ability to control ‘in-can’ stability, having excellent pigment suspension characteristics (low shear thickening), with high shear brushing rheology, which results in far less ‘splatter’ of the finished paint. For a coatings manufacturer, Texipol liquid thickeners provide significant rheological control and can help increase production efficiencies and productivity. All Texipol grades can be added at any point into a mixture, and once added thicken very quickly; compound blending times are typically reduced by at least 50%. Texipols do not require further ammonia or amine addition, with the added benefit of reducing the odour of a finished compound.

Texicryl for Graphic Arts

Texicryl products are water-based styrene acrylic emulsion polymers and solid resins, all specially developed for a variety of typical Graphic Arts printing applications including: over print varnishes (OPVs); as functional coatings, such as a barrier coating; blister and cold seal adhesives; and in Flexo and Gravure inks for both board and film substrates. The technologies used by Scott Bader in the Texicryl range provides key benefits for both manufacturers and end users such as: low foaming; low odour; low particle sizes for good clarity and gloss, which is especially important for inks and OPVs. There is a wide choice of grade options available to suit different Graphic Arts end applications, with a choice of chemistries including: colloid stabilised emulsions for OPVs; barrier coatings and inks; alkali soluble grades for carton board inks; plus solution polymers and surfactant stabilised emulsions.
