Focus on product safety and stewardship

14 January 2016

As facility owners and contractors show increasing interest in health, safety and environmental issues, the potential hazard of the materials is often emphasised over any other consideration. Covestro LLC believes that approaches to evaluating materials and products are more sustainable when built on principles of product safety, product stewardship, life-cycle analysis and risk-based science.

Covestro’s approach will be the topic of a workshop: "Overview of health, safety and stewardship programs for polyurethane coatings” taking place 1:30-4:30 p.m., Monday, January 18, during SSPC 2016 in San Antonio. Three technical specialists in Covestro LLC’s Coatings, Adhesives & Specialties business unit – Scott Ecoff, senior industrial hygienist; Lisa Marie Nespoli, manager, product safety and stewardship; and Ahren Olson, market manager – corrosion protection; will lead the discussion.

The three-hour session will highlight the benefits of polyurethane chemistry. It will also address recent developments in health and safety regulations, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Isocyanate National Emphasis Program, along with recommended controls when applying coatings containing isocyanates and case studies. Also included will be examples of how to incorporate product stewardship and sustainable thinking into product development processes.
