Gelest Reinforces Its Continued Compliance with All Regulatory and Quality Assurance RequirementsGel

Gelest Inc announces the formation of a new Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Group. Under the co-leadership of Kevin King, Executive Vice President Operations, who oversees Regulatory Affairs, and Joel Zazyczny, Executive Vice President Silanes, Silicones & Metal-Organics, who oversees Quality Assurance, the new group is responsible for ensuring that Gelest continues to fulfill all applicable regulatory and quality assurance requirements pertaining to the company’s chemical manufacturing facilities and processes.
Based at Gelest headquarters in Morrisville, Pennsylvania, the Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Group includes Shelly L Kearney, who joins Gelest as Regulatory Affairs Manager; Maya Kappil, Gelest’s Quality Systems Manager; and Stephine Tarpeh, who assumes a new position at Gelest as Environmental & Regulatory Affairs Associate.
As Regulatory Affairs Manager, Kearney is responsible for managing all chemical-specific aspects of regulatory compliance at Gelest. She brings 20 years of experience in the chemical industry to her new position, specializing in Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) issues in manufacturing and R&D environments. Kearney began her professional career as an Environmental Engineer at Catalent Pharma Solutions after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Engineering Technology at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pa. She comes to Gelest following a successful tenure as EH&S Site Leader at GE Betz

As Quality Systems Manager, Kappil is responsible for managing and maintaining ISO- certified quality systems and for the development of procedures, work instructions and related training on all quality system documents. She is also responsible for the maintenance of Gelest’s Corrective & Preventive Action and Customer Complaint databases and for coordinating internal audit-program and management-review meetings. A seven-year veteran of Gelest, Kappil previously worked as Quality Coordinator for Alcoa-KAMA (now Multi-Plastics Inc.) in New Jersey and Solvay Paperboard (now Rock-Tenn) in Syracuse, New York. She holds a Master of Science degree in Paper Science and Engineering from the State University of New York College of Environmental Science in Syracuse.

As Environmental & Regulatory Affairs Associate, Tarpeh is responsible for contributing to the planning and preparation of environmental and regulatory submissions; supporting the formatting, organization, and structuring of these submissions; and assisting other employees in steering products through processes that ensure conformance to government directives. A seven-year veteran of Gelest, Tarpeh started with the company as a Process Chemist, and subsequently broadened her experience and responsibilities as a Synthetic Chemist and as a Customer Service Representative before assuming her new position with the Regulatory Affairs and Quality Assurance Group. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Pennsylvania State University in University Park, Pa.
