PPG Aerospace expands sealants capabilities at ASC in Germany

17 December 2014

PPG Industries has expanded the ability for its Central Europe application support centre in Hamburg, Germany, to package aerospace sealants for customers in Central and Eastern Europe by adding equipment to provide premixed and frozen sealant, Semkit packages, as well as Customized Sealant Solutions products, such as PRC seal caps and PRC Semfoam sealant.

According to Ulrich Krueger, PPG Deutschland Sales and Services GmbH Managing Director, the ASC now has full packaging capabilities for PPG sealants and the ability to produce Customized Sealant Solutions products.

"ASC-Central Europe has a successful history of repackaging coatings and third-party chemicals to meet customer specifications, as well as supplying sealants repackaged at our Shildon, England, ASC to customers in Central and Eastern Europe,” Krueger said. "We are building on this experience to provide a broader range of sealants in customer-friendly packaging by adding our premixed and frozen sealant and Semkit packaging capabilities.”

In addition to repackaging PPG coatings and third-party chemicals, ASC-Central Europe colour mixes top coatings and delivers products to customer specifications.

"With the expanded sealants production capacity at PPG’s Shildon facility, we are well-positioned to meet growing demand and opportunities,” Krueger said.

Among its services, PPG’s ASCs, including ASC-Central Europe repackage products received in bulk containers, such as drums, pails, gallons or quarts for aerospace and other customers using proprietary Semco packaging and application systems. SEMCO systems provide packaging solutions for one- or two-part materials. The Hamburg ASC will now provide premixed and frozen sealants and Semkit packages that contain two-part sealants and it will be able to produce Customized Sealant Solutions products such as PRC seal caps used to dome-seal aircraft fasteners and PRC Semfoam sealant, which is an open-cell, inert polyurethane foam cut to shape and then loaded with the appropriate aerospace sealant.
